Working in the kitchen involves many potential hazards. With a little preparation and clear rules for everyone involved, you can reduce most risks right from the start. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this post, I\u2019ll share my tips &amp; tricks for safe baking with children!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Erst_denken_dann_backen\"><\/span>Think first, then bake!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Probably the most important tip for safe baking with kids! Before you dive into mixing with your Minis, take a moment to consider <strong>which tasks your child can already handle<\/strong>. A tugged cable can pull a mixer onto the floor or into little hands. Use <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cable protection*<\/a> or store cords safely out of reach.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Depending on your child\u2019s age <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>socket covers*<\/strong>*<\/a> should be installed . A spoon in an outlet can be disastrous.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mixers &amp; hand mixers<\/strong> should only be used under adult supervision until school age. At my house, the rule is: both hands must hold the mixer handle\u2014this gives better control and prevents fingers from getting caught in the beaters. If more than one child is baking, one holds the bowl firmly while the other mixes. Also: ingredients only go in when the mixer is turned off.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unplug devices<\/strong>when not in use. Even a moment alone is enough for a curious child to switch one on. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sicherheit_beim_Backen_mit_Kindern_ohne_Schrittwunden\"><\/span>Baking safely without cuts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The kitchen holds plenty of sharp tools. Here\u2019s how to manage the essentials:\n\n! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grater \u2013 I generally don\u2019t recommend graters for young children. Prepare this step yourself or use a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>safety holder<\/strong>* <\/a>that protects fingers. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knives \u2013 Even adults cut themselves sometimes, but knives are unavoidable in the kitchen. Start with a blunt (spreading) knife and soft foods like bananas. Gradually move to firmer foods and sharper knives\u2014always under supervision. There are <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">special child-safe training knives*.<\/a>*.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cookie cutters \u2013 Surprisingly, these can cause cuts too. If a child presses the wrong side down, the sharp edge can hurt. Explain clearly how to use them. What feels lukewarm to you may already feel hot to them. So extra caution is needed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hot oven \u2013 Ideally, your child can\u2019t reach the oven door at all. If they can, the rule is: hands off! For older kids, always use <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>oven mitts* <\/strong>(child-sized ones exist)<\/a> and keep sleeves <strong>long and snug <\/strong>to avoid forearm burns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hot pans &amp; baking sheets \u2013 Let them cool somewhere out of reach, ideally in another room, <strong>pantry, balcony, or outside.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Double boiler (water bath) \u2013 Melting chocolate or butter over hot water is dangerous for children. My tip: use the microwave instead! But be careful\u2014melted candy melts can still burn. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pan handles \u2013<\/strong> Always turn them to the back (toward the wall). Kids are fast, and pans tip over easily. If you don't want this, make sure the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kitchen rug has a slip-resistant finish and adheres firmly to the floor*<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cabinet locks<\/strong> \u2014store knives and cleaning products securely protected in a cabinet with <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/44OkSys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a cabinet lock*<\/a> .<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Keep toys out of the kitchen<\/strong> \u2013 Toys lying around in the kitchen can be a great tripping hazard or a distraction when working in the kitchen. If you can't avoid it completely, keep toys in a designated place and store them so they're not in plain sight when you're working in the kitchen (e.g., in a box or small chest).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ausstattung_der_Minis\"><\/span>Equipment for the Minis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When little ones help out in the kitchen, it can sometimes be quite difficult for them to manage utensils made for adults in their small hands.
