In the Bake Your Favorite Book challenge this November, we’re getting ready for Advent. Gingerbread mini bundt cakes are a magical homemade gift from the kitchen that kids can easily bake and give away, too!
Bake your favorite book – the baking challenge for minis
It’s the beginning of November, which means it’s time for a new Bake Your Favorite Book challenge. Since Christmas season is approaching fast and many families are already preparing for Advent, I’ve adjusted this month’s theme accordingly.
But before I reveal it, let me briefly explain what the Bake Your Favorite Book challenge is all about – especially for all the new faces who are joining our baking & crafting challenge for kids for the very first time.
What is the “Bake your favorite book” challenge
Simply put, the Bake Your Favorite Book challenge is a family baking challenge. But it’s not just about recreating or interpreting books through cakes and cookies! The idea behind the challenge goes much further: it’s about parents and children spending time together, discovering beautiful children’s books, and engaging with them in a playful, creative way. Especially during the colder months – and most of all in the Christmas season – reading together with a hot cocoa and cookies strengthens the bond between reader and child. But it’s not only the bond that grows stronger!
Because just like baking together with your child, reading “together” or reading aloud promotes your child’s development on a variety of levels. That’s why I combined these two wonderful activities into the “Bake Your Favorite Book” challenge.

The idea for the Bake Your Favorite Book challenge was born in April 2020 on International Children’s Book Day. Various favorite books of the little ones were interpreted by young bakers and sweet-tooth enthusiasts through cakes, cookies, and other treats.
Since the idea was well received by many cake lovers and bookworms, we have been baking every month based on a specific book and theme! This way, we discover new children’s books each month and can creatively bake with our children, then enjoy a homemade treat while reading a favorite book.
Bake your favorite book in November 2020
Since many parents and their children are already preparing for the Christmas season in November, the current topic of the Bake Your Favorite Book Challenge also focuses on preparing for the Christmas season!
November theme: Advent calendar books
This year's Christmas season will likely be different than the pre-Christmas period of previous years! Christmas parties are canceled, cozy afternoons with friends and relatives are to be kept to a minimum, and strolling through the Christmas market is impossible in most cities, as there aren't any.
However, you can still show your friends and family that you are thinking of them and looking forward to spending more time with them again!
For this reason, I have chosen the following topic for November:
“Advent calendar books – DIY gift ideas to sweeten Advent!

Kid's book presentation
This November, the Bake Your Favorite Book challenge is sponsored by cat lady Soja and her dog friend Bruno from the Advent calendar book “Schnauze, jetzt rieselt’s Geschenke!”
Soja is planning a big birthday party during Advent – while Bruno would rather nap by the fireplace. But things don’t go quite as planned! Invitations, the “right” birthday gift, and even awkward presents stir up plenty of chaos.
This witty Advent calendar book contains 24 connected stories – one for each day until Christmas – that need to be “opened” by cutting the pages with scissors. A readable Advent calendar!
A charming, funny book that will accompany your family throughout Advent and make the wait for Christmas fly by.

The Advent calendar book “Schnauze, jetzt rieselt’s Geschenke”* is one of the books that will be raffled off among all participants of the “Bake your favorite book” challenge in November.

Recipe: Gingerbread Mini Bundt Cakes
As you may know, my Minis and I love baking in mini format! For this challenge, we baked gingerbread mini bundt cakes decorated as edible Advent wreaths.
This time, we worked without a kitchen scale, as we measured the Christmas gingerbread mini Bundt cakes with cups. We used the classic plastic cups from IKEA, which hold about 150 ml.This makes weighing the ingredients easy, even for the littlest ones!
Mini tip: This recipe tolerates small inaccuracies in measuring!

Ingredients (for 24 gingerbread mini bundt cakes)
Dough
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup sunflower oil
- 1 cup sparkling water
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar (15g)
- 1 tsp gingerbread spice*
- 1/2 cup chocolate chunks
- 2 eggs
Decoration
Baking accessories
mini bundt cake silicone mold**, mixing bowl, measuring cups, hand mixer, teaspoon, cooling rack, saucepan & bowl for water bath, spatula

Preparation
This gingerbread batter comes together quickly – ideal for kids and for last-minute homemade Christmas gifts!
We are baking Mini Christmas Bundt Cakes
- Let your Mini measure the dry ingredients into a bowl and stir briefly. Add the wet ingredients and mix with a hand mixer until smooth.
- Using a teaspoon, fill the mini bundt silicone mold (don’t grease – just rinse with cold water).Mini tip: Silicone molds only need to be greased once before first use.
- Bake at 175°C (350°F) for 12–15 minutes. Use a toothpick test to check doneness.
- Let the cakes cool completely in the mold before gently pressing them out.

Gingerbread mini-Gugelhupfs become edible Advent wreaths
To ensure that the shape of the mini-Gugelhupfs for the edible Advent wreaths is perfectly “drawn” with the icing, let's use the simple tip that has already graced our Halloween snacks! You and your little one need to pour the melted icing (in our case, the Deco Melts) into the clean mini Bundt pan – 1 to 2 teaspoons of the liquid icing should be sufficient per mini Bundt pan. Then, press the baked, cooled gingerbread mini Bundt pans back into the pan so that the still-liquid icing adheres to the shape of the Bundt pan. Place the pan, icing, and mini Bundt pans in the refrigerator to dry. Once the icing has dried (after about 20-30 minutes), you and your little one can carefully press the finished Halloween snacks out of the silicone baking pan.
Decorate with sugar pearls, attaching them with a dab of melted chocolate or edible glue.
And voilà: adorable edible Advent wreaths that make wonderful homemade Christmas gifts!
My Minis and I wish you a joyful Advent season and lots of fun baking together!
Yours, Lia
