Fairy floral waffle cups

*This posting contains advertising

Mini muffins in waffle cups are the ultimate party snack for little ones. Decorated with edible flowers, these floral waffle cups are a special treat at a fairy-themed or horse-themed party.

Of course, our horse-themed party couldn't be complete without these cute, handy waffle cup muffins. As you've probably noticed by now, I'm a big fan of these mini cupcakes – especially as a party snack for children's birthdays (5 reasons why you should bake cakes in waffle cups for your child's birthday party), of course we also baked them for our starting school horse party and decorated them nicely as a “horse pasture”.

The pretty flower waffle cups also look great at a fairy or fairy-tale party!

Recipe for our fairy-tale flower waffle cups

This recipe is a so-called mug cake, the units of measurement are not measured in grams, but in mugs (we use the children's cups from IKEA, capacity approx. 150 ml). Even children without much knowledge of numbers can “weigh” the recipe on their own (You can find more tips in the blog post “My tips for baking with children”). Furthermore, your little ones' dexterity will be trained both when filling the waffle cups and when decorating the flowers.

My little ones and I used the well-known “ant cake” (cake with baked-in chocolate sprinkles) for the flower waffle cups. However, you can use any batter for the muffins in the waffle cup (recipe for Yogurt cake in a waffle cup)

Ingredients for 16 flower waffle cups

Sponge dough

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup caster sugar
  • 1/2 packet of vanilla sugar (7g)
  • 1/2 cup sunflower oil
  • 1/2 cup of carbonated mineral water
  • 1/2 cup chocolate sprinkles
  • 1 egg
  • 16 waffle cups* (the waffle cups are also available in many supermarkets)

Decoration

Baking accessories

Cup with approx. 150 ml capacity, mixing bowl, hand mixer, teaspoon, baking tray, cooling rack, saucepan & bowl or microwave for a water bath, toothpicks

Preparation

Before we decorate the fairy-like flower waffle cups, we first make the batter for the “ant cake.”

Cake filling for the waffle cups

  • First, preheat the oven to 180°C top/bottom heat.
  • Put all the ingredients for the batter into the mixing bowl and mix until you get a smooth batter.
  • Now fill the waffle cups 2/3 full with the batter (this works best with a teaspoon)
  • To prevent the small waffle cups from falling over while baking on the oven rack, place them on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for about 10-12 minutes. (To determine if they are baked through, do the toothpick test.)
  • Then place them on a cooling rack to cool down.

Decoration of the flower waffle cups

While the waffle cups are cooling, we turn our attention to the decoration.

  • The first step is to melt the melts in a water bath or in the microwave according to the instructions.
  • For a little wow effect with the flowers, dip a toothpick into the liquid melts and place a small drop in the center of the decorative flower. Then place a chocolate pearl in the center of the flower as a pistil (see image). Decorate all the flowers this way and let them dry briefly.
  • Next, place the cooled waffle cups upside down, opening first, into the liquid glaze so that the entire opening of the waffle cup is covered with the melts (see image). To allow some of the glaze to drip off, hold the waffle cup at a slight angle over the bowl and slowly rotate it between two fingers.
  • Now, place two or three flowers and a butterfly onto the still-liquid glaze of the waffle cups. Finally, sprinkle some pastel-colored sugar sprinkles over the work of art.

And now you have created a pretty party snack for the next child's birthday party with your fairy-like flower waffle cups!

If you and your little ones are now really craving little muffins in waffle cups, I can also recommend our cheeky dino waffle cups or our sweet shake cakes to you.

My kids and I wish you lots of fun baking and decorating!
