Sweet or sour? Why not both? Our chocolaty CandyCake for Halloween makes all kids’ dreams come true! A moist chocolate cake topped with all kinds of sweets—who could resist?
Boooo… it’s Halloween again! We find this dark spectacle really exciting! Personally, I’m definitely more interested in baking spooky treats and decorating mystical dessert tables than in horror movies and blood-stained costumes, but it’s always fun! 🙂
Before we go trick-or-treating this year, of course, we’ll fuel up with a delicious Halloween cake. Last year, we celebrated the spooky day with a bat cake—a chocolaty pumpkin cake! This year, we enjoyed our spookily chocolaty CandyCake topped with sweet & sour candies! There’s only one thing left to say: “Trick or Treat?”

Preparation of the chocolaty CandyCake for Halloween
We bake a moist chocolate cake
- First, prepare the springform pan or baking tray with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 160°C (top and bottom heat).
- Now wash the zucchini and grate it finely with the kitchen grater.
- Next, melt the butter in a saucepan and set it aside.
- Put all the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa powder, almonds, sugar, baking powder, vanilla sugar, and the chocolate spice for kids) into a mixing bowl and mix well.
- Add the eggs, grated zucchini, agave syrup, and melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix everything with the mixer into a smooth batter.
- Spread the batter on the baking tray or in the rectangular springform pan and bake for about 25–30 minutes. On a baking tray, the cake bakes faster, so start checking for doneness after 20 minutes with a toothpick test:Insert a toothpick or wooden skewer into the center of the cake. If no batter sticks to it, the cake is done and can be taken out of the oven.
- Let the chocolate cake cool before decorating the CandyCake for Halloween.

Trick or Treat?
The chocolate cake becomes a CandyCake for Halloween
Before you spread the melts on the cooled cake, get all your decorating supplies ready, as the melts dry quite fast.
- First, melt the orange and purple melts according to the instructions, either in a water bath or microwave. You need both colors simultaneously, so melt them at the same time.
- Fill the orange melts into a disposable piping bag and set aside.
- Cover the chocolate cake with the purple melts and then draw spirals on the still-liquid glaze with the orange melts. Using a toothpick, drag a line from the center of each spiral to its outer ring about 6–8 times in a star shape. This creates little spider webs.
- Now decorate your CandyCake for Halloween with your favorite sweets as you like. (Little tip: If the glaze has already dried, put some of the still-liquid glaze from the piping bag onto the sweet and press it onto your CandyCake! Or you can gently warm the dried glaze with a hairdryer on low heat—the glaze softens again. A bit quirky, but it works! 😉)
