A Miraculous birthday cake

A Miraculous birthday cake for a child's birthday? I'll now show you how you can bake a simple theme cake without much effort.

Another year has passed and my little Mini's 5th birthday is just around the corner! Like every year, my Minis can choose a theme for their birthday, and I bake and decorate them. For their 3rd birthday, my Mini wanted a Bee Maya Cake and last year the four candles were lit on a brightly colored unicorn cake.

This year she decided on a Miraculous birthday cake. When I hear "Miraculous," I first have to get a clear picture and research what "Miraculous" actually is. I quickly find out that for my mini, "Miraculous" essentially consists of one of the main characters, "Ladybug."

Since I can neither bake this superhero persona as a cake nor overestimate my skills in shaping figures out of fondant, I decide on a simple version that 1. won't overwhelm me and end in disaster and 2. - even more importantly - will make my little one happy: I order an edible cake topper printed with the characters from “Miraculous.”*

Recipe for my kid's Miraculous birthday cake

For the Miraculous birthday cake, I bake a simple, moist sponge cake as a base. Of course, you can also bake your little one's favorite sponge cake and decorate it in a Miraculous style. The cake decoration consists mainly of red cake icing, the edible cake topper and delicious cake toppers made of all kinds of sweets.

Preparation

The basis for the Miraculous birthday cake is a simple but super moist sponge cake.

We bake a juicy sponge cake

  • First, place the baking paper in the springform pan and preheat the oven to 175°C top/bottom heat.
  • Beat margarine, sugar & vanilla sugar until fluffy and the sugar has dissolved.
  • Add eggs one at a time and stir for 20 seconds each.
  • In the next step, add flour and baking powder to the dough and mix well.
  • Now add the ground almonds, white chocolate shavings and milk and mix to form a smooth dough.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared springform pan and place it on the middle level in the preheated oven.
  • Let the cake bake for about 50-60 minutes. Don’t forget to use a skewer to check if it is cookedSince all ovens bake differently, you can use it to be sure that the sponge cake is cooked. (In another oven, I once had to bake this cake for 70 minutes until it was baked through...).
  • Once the cake is baked, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes and then remove it from the pan. To do this, run a sharp knife between the cake and the edge; this will release the cake from the edge of the springform pan. Then open the edge of the springform pan and remove it from the cake. Now place a plate on the cake and turn it over so that the base of the springform pan is on top of the cake. You can now carefully remove this from the cake. Place a round cooling rack on the cake and turn the cake over again so that it is now on the cooling rack and can cool completely.

The foundation for our Miraculous birthday cake is now in place.

The Miraculous birthday cake takes shape

  • While the cake is cooling, melt the red cake melts in a water bath or in the microwave (follow the instructions on the cake melts packaging).
  • Then the visible surface and the edge of the sponge cake are covered with the red cake melts and the cake topper is placed in the middle of the surface of the sponge cake. I decorated the surface of the Miraculous birthday cake a little with red and purple chocolate beans.
  • As a grand finale, I skewer my little one's favorite sweets on shashlik skewers and use them as edible cake toppers!

Just five more candles on the cake and the Miraculous birthday cake for my mini’s “Ladybug” birthday party is ready!

And have I convinced you that themed cakes don't have to be daunting? Instead of a cake topper, you could, for example, drape Ladybug toy figures on the cake and it will be a special Miraculous birthday cake.(This is how I designed the Paw Patrol birthday cake for my big kid.)

I hope you and your little ones have lots of fun with the Miraculous birthday cake!

Yours, Lia
