Today I'm sharing with you our recipe for the delicious dinosaur landscape for little dinosaur fans - a very easy recipe for the fluffy dinosaur cake for my mini's 6th dinosaur birthday!
Our dinosaur party was a little highlight in our birthday party history: the party decoration was a special eye-catcher. We don't really like the traditional creepy, snarling dinosaur party decorations... We've found a wonderful alternative in the form of a craft kit. Of course, in addition to a delicious dinosaur cake buffet, we also played some fun dinosaur games (You can find all information about our dinosaur party in our blog post about my kid's dinosaur party).

After sharing the recipes for the “little treats” for our dinosaur birthday (Chocolatey dinosaur cookies and the cute dinosaur waffle cups) with you on our blog, the long-awaited recipe for our edible dinosaur landscape is finally here: the dinosaur cake for my kid's dinosaur birthday. The absolute dinosaur highlight and wonderful snacking fun for small and large dinosaur fans.

Recipe for our dinosaur cake (marble cake)
Our edible “dinosaur landscape” is the perfect motif cake for baking beginners! Some people think motif cakes are super difficult and only for professionals… This motif cake is just the thing for those with a creative sweet tooth… 😉
No panic! Just because your child wants a themed cake doesn't mean you have to break out in a sweat. With this easy recipe and delicious sweets you can bake & decorate a great dinosaur cake for your birthday child's dinosaur birthday!
I baked a marble cake for our dinosaur landscape because it is very popular here. If your child has another favorite sponge cake, you can also use the recipe as a basis for the exciting dinosaur cake.

Ingredients for our dinosaur cake
Sponge dough (for 1 rectangular springform pan)*
- 250 g sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 6 eggs
- 300 g soft margarine
- 450 g flour
- 1 1/2 packet of baking powder (22 g)
- 220 ml milk
- 30 g baking cocoa
Mini-Tip It's especially fun if you color the light part of the marble cake with green food coloring. This will definitely look particularly great when cutting the cake! For coloring dough and creams, I really like using the droplet system from Goodbake*.

Baking accessories
Kitchen scales, mixing bowl, hand mixer, measuring cup, rectangular springform pan* (Außenmaß: 32×22,5×7 cm, Innenmaß: 27×17,5 x7 cm) & 1 Blatt Backpapier, Teigschaber, Gabel, Abkühlgitter, Kochtopf & Schmelzschale, Pinsel oder Palette

Preparation
We bake our fluffy marble cake:
- First, heat the oven to 175°C top/bottom heat and stretch the baking paper into the springform pan.
- Now put the soft margarine, sugar and a pinch of salt together in the mixing bowl and stir the ingredients with the hand mixer until foamy.
- Then beat the eggs one by one into the dough, pour in the milk and mix the ingredients well.
- In the next step, mix the baking powder with the flour and slowly stir the flour-baking powder mixture into the dough.
- Now put half of the dough into the springform pan and spread it with the dough scraper.
- Add the baking cocoa to half of the mixture in the mixing bowl and then mix it well with the hand mixer.
- The dark dough is now poured over the light dough and also spread a little with the dough scraper.
- Now use the fork to make a few small loops to create the marble pattern in the cake.
- The sponge cake is then baked in the oven for 40 minutes. Since ovens heat and bake at different levels, do the stick test to make sure your cake is baked through. (You don’t know what a “stick test” is yet, no problem, in this article I’ll tell you a few baking tricks and baking terms.)
- After the marble cake has finished baking, it is removed from the springform pan and cooled on a cooling rack.

The marble cake becomes a dinosaur landscape:
Before you start decorating, you should know that cake melts and similar cake icings dry very quickly. You should therefore have all the ingredients you need to decorate your dinosaur cake ready to hand. Then let's go:
- First, melt the green cake icing according to the package instructions (usually in a water bath or in the microwave) and spread it generously over the cake.
- Now stick the wafer rolls as “bamboo sticks” on one edge of the dinosaur cake.
- Next, place the small bundt cake in a corner as a volcano. It looks particularly realistic if you distribute a few cake crumbs from the middle as lava stones around the bundt cake.
- Now you find a good place for the little toy dinosaurs and use the chocolate sprinkles and chocolate tokens to decorate a dinosaur nest with delicious dinosaur eggs.
- For spectacular lava flows, you can let the yellow and red cake icing from inside the bundt cake run down the bundt cake. I placed a few chocolate buttons on the lava flow for a delicious “effect” (they are always well received here!)
- With the chocolate raisins (which I think look like stones), sugar sprinkles and all other ingredients, you can now decorate the dinosaur landscape as you wish.
- And finally, the birthday candles and sparklers go on top of the dinosaur cake as a finale!
The delicious work of art is ready!
