For the spookiest time of the year, we’re baking crazy Halloween cookies today: Monster Cookies! They may look scary, but they taste absolutely fantastic!
Halloween is just around the corner…! That means not only zombies, witches, and ghosts are waiting for us… but also the monsters… the cheeky, multi-eyed monsters! They are green, red, purple, and they see everything very, very closely! These googly-eyed creepy creatures are not only chillingly spooky, but also frighteningly delicious! Perfect Halloween cookies!
Monster Cookies are a fantastic eye-catcher for the Halloween table and a treat for all zombie fans. They should not be missing at any Halloween party!
Perfect for baking with children of all ages, these Halloween cookies are especially inviting because the simple monster recipe is not only quick, but the cookies are delightfully Halloween-themed without being truly scary thanks to their cute eyes. If the eyes are still a bit too spooky for the youngest minis, you can give the monsters a smile with a decorating pen. 😉

Recipe for Spooky Halloween Cookies Schauderhafte Halloween-Kekse
Monster Cookies are perfect for baking with kids, as they are quick to make and the steps are simple enough for your mini to help. Depending on your child’s age, they can take on many tasks, such as sifting the ingredients or rolling the monster cookies. Older kids may even help chop chocolate or nuts.

Ingredients for approx. 20 Monster Cookies:
- 125 g soft butter
- 125 g brown sugar
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar (15g)
- 1 egg
- 220 g flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 125 g macadamia nuts
- 150 g white chocolate (+ approx. 20 g for attaching the eyes, or edible glue)
- Food coloring* (I used the liquid food coloring from GoodBake*)
- Candy eyes* for decorating (Smarties can also be used)

Preparation
Even though the cookies are quick to make, if you’re short on time, you can prepare the dough in advance, store it in the fridge, and bake and decorate the Halloween cookies the next day.
Making the cookie dough for the Halloween cookies
Your mini creams the butter in a bowl. Gradually add the sugar and vanilla sugar while stirring. Then add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Mini tipLet your mini practice cracking eggs in a separate small bowl first. This way, if any shell pieces fall in – and they probably will – you can easily fish them out with a spoon without getting shells in the dough.
Next, your mini can sift the flour and salt into another bowl. Chop the nuts and chocolate roughly. Macadamia nuts are fairly soft, so your child might try crushing them.
Mini tipIf you don’t trust your child with a sharp knife yet, place the nuts in a plastic bag and let your mini crush them by rolling over them with a rolling pin.
Then stir the flour mixture gradually into the butter mixture. Finally, fold in the chopped nuts and chocolate.
From Macadamia Cookies to Monster Cookies
Now the colorful, cheeky monster cookies come to life. Divide the dough into separate bowls for each color. We chose three colors for our Halloween cookies. Knead the food coloring into the dough (mini tip: wear disposable gloves to avoid stained hands).

Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F) fan while your mini lines a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then comes the fun part for your mini, which also improves motor skillsform about 20 balls of dough, around 3 cm each. Place them 6 cm apart on the baking sheet. Bake the monster cookies on the middle rack for 15–18 minutes (watch carefully, as every oven bakes differently).

Once baked, let the monster cookies cool on the sheet.
In the final step, your mini attaches the candy eyes to the colorful cookies using melted chocolate (or edible glue).
Woahhhh – and your googly-eyed monster cookies are ready!
I wish you and your minis a spooktacular Halloween baking session!
Yours, Lia
