The sweet apple florets not only look amazing, they are also quick to bake. A delicious recipe for anyone who loves apple muffins.

My kid's 1st birthday is coming up and in my imagination, the birthday table, especially for the 1st birthday, should be crowned with a very special treat. For a long time I was looking for an idea that was quickest, looked great AND of course tasted delicious!

And you know what? I found what I was looking for! My kid's birthday table is decorated with "florets" for her 1st birthday - with delicious, sweet apple florets. And the best thing about them is that they are prepared very quickly! 🙂

At first glance, the apple florets don't seem ideal to bake with the kids, but that's deceptive. Depending on how old your child is and how good they are with a knife, you can let them cut the apple slices under your supervision (if necessary, you can correct something...;) However, if that's too daring for you, the kids spread the jam wonderfully on the puff pastry. Some people particularly like to arrange the apple slices precisely and then roll up the florets! So you see, baking with kids is always a good option 😉

Ingredients (for 6 apple florets)

  • 1 roll of puff pastry
  • 6 tbsp apricot jam
  • 2 red apples
  • 1 Lemon
  • cinnamon and sugar
  • Powdered sugar (for decoration)

Baking accessories:

Sharp knife, saucepan, sieve, spoon, 12 muffin tray*, possibly aluminum foil, muffin tins of your choice

Preparation

First, wash and core the apples. Then quarter and cut them into very narrow slices (approx. 1-2 mm wide, so you can roll them after the steam bath without the slices breaking).

Now place the apple slices in the juice of a lemon.

While the apple slices are steeping in the lemon stock, put a pot of water on and bring the water to the boil. When the water boils, hang the apple slices in a colander in the pot for 5 minutes (so that they are cooked in the steam, please do not hang them in the water). After the steam bath, the apple slices will be soft enough to roll without breaking in the middle.

Now take the puff pastry and roll it out. Now cut the longer side into 6 strips. Each strip is spread with a tablespoon of apricot jam and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.

The strip of dough is covered with the apple slices and rolled up.

Now the apple slices are lined up on the longer side of the dough strip (with the apple peel facing outwards). The strip of puff pastry is now folded in half over the apple slices. Finally, the strip is rolled up lengthwise and placed in a greased muffin tin.

The apple florets are now baked at 200 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Attention: all ovens bake to different degrees! Make sure the apples don't get too dark. If you notice that the florets are getting too dark, cover them with aluminum foil.

Then you can dust the apple florets with powdered sugar! But even without powdered sugar, the red florets look good to eat! 🙂

My minis and I wish you and your kids lots of fun baking the sweet apple muffins!

Yours, Lia
