Recipe for Our Crazy Monster Waffle Cones
For the muffins in waffle cones, I like to use recipes for “cupcakes,” where the measurements are given in cups rather than grams (we use the children's cups from IKEA, capacity approx. 150 ml). This means that even the smallest of the minis can “weigh out” the recipe on their own without much knowledge of numbers (You can find more tips in the blog post “My tips for baking with children”).
My minis and I filled the crazy monster waffle cones with a delicious chocolate cake.

Ingredients for 16 Monster Waffle Cones
Sponge dough
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup caster sugar
- 1/2 packet of vanilla sugar (7g)
- 1/2 cup sunflower oil
- 1/2 cup of carbonated mineral water
- 1 egg
- 16 waffle cups* (the waffle cups are also available in many supermarkets)
Decoration
- Orange Deco Melts*

- Fun sugar shapes (mouth, mustache, hat, etc.)*
- Colorful chocolate pearls* (my minis selected the long rods from various sprinkle mixes)

Der Halloween-Kracher!
Preparation
Before we decorate the crazy monster waffle cones for Halloween, let's first make the chocolate batter.
Cake filling for the waffle cups
- First, preheat the oven to 180°C top/bottom heat.
- Put all the ingredients for the batter into the mixing bowl and mix them until you get a smooth dough.
- Now fill the waffle cups 2/3 full with the batter (this works best with a teaspoon)
- Place the waffle cones on a baking tray so that they don’t tip over while baking, and bake for about 10-12 minutes. (To determine if they are baked through, do the toothpick test.)
- Then place them on a cooling rack to cool down.
Decorating the Monster Waffle Cones
While the waffle cones are cooling, let’s work on the glaze.
- First, melt the orange deco melts in a water bath or according to the instructions in the microwave.
- Once melted, dip the cooled waffle cones “upside down” into the glaze so that the opening is completely coated with the melts. Hold the cone slightly tilted over the bowl to let any excess glaze drip off, and slowly rotate it between two fingers.
- Now it’s time for your minis to get creative! As long as the glaze is still soft, decorate your little crazy monsters with candy eyes, sprinkles, and any other fun edible items that you can find!

And just like that, your monster waffle cones are wonderfully decorated and ready for your spooky Halloween party!
