Finally Summer! Finally Ice Pops Again! In this blog post, you’ll learn how to make your own ice pops and discover 5 of our favorite ice pop recipes.
The temperatures are rising, and so is the craving for a cool refreshment! The perfect time for homemade ice cream! Last year, my Minis and I tested all kinds of ice recipes, and this year we’ll continue our kitchen experiments!
To make sure your Minis and you also enjoy lots of fun with homemade ice this summer, I’ll show you today which ice molds work best for your summer treats – and how you can make ice pops even without special molds. Plus, I’ll share ice pop recipes that my Minis and I especially love.

Which Ice Molds Are Best for Homemade Ice Pops?
There are countless ice molds on the market, but what are the pros and cons of each? Based on our experience from last summer, I can tell you exactly which ones work best – especially when making ice pops with kids.
Classic Ice Molds
The classic mold usually comes with a stand for the containers, which makes them stable and easy for children to fill. These molds are great for layering different flavors. in der Form.
The ice stick is part of the mold and seals it, though not in a completely spill-proof way. Because of the holder and stick, these molds take up more space in the freezer and need to stand upright.
Classic molds are reusable and therefore sustainable. However, they can only be refilled once the first batch is eaten since the sticks are in use. So they’re not ideal if you want to make large quantities at once.

Silicone Molds for Baking & Freezing
Silicone molds, which can be used for both baking and freezing, come in all kinds of shapes and designs . They’re fun for kids (and adults!)and some even come with lids. While the lids aren’t fully leak-proof, they do make stacking in the freezer easier .
Because of their wide, open surface, they’re trickier for kids to fill, and moving them to the freezer without spills can be tough . A small board or tray underneath helps, since silicone is flexible.
These molds usually come with wooden sticks, which means you can remove the pops and reuse the molds right away – even if not all the pops have been eaten yet. Perfect for making larger quantities..

Ice Pop Tubes (Freeze Pop Bags)
Ice pop tubes are perfect for making a large batch– for example, for a family party. But since they’re single-use, they’re not sustainable.
They can be sealed tightly, making them easy to transport and space-saving in the freezer .
However, they’re not suitable for layering flavors. Kids usually need help holding the tubes while filling , since they’re not stableon their own.

My Conclusion on Ice Pop Molds with Kids
All of these molds will give you delicious summer ice pops. In my opinion, the classic ice mold is best when making ice with kids , because of its stability.
For birthday parties or kids’ playdates , silicone molds with their fun shapes are a real hit with the little foodies!

Can You Make Ice Pops Without a Mold?
Maybe you're in the mood for some homemade ice cream right now, but you don't have an ice cream mold handy (because you misplaced it, don't own one, or whatever), or you want to make a large number of ice pops, for example, with your little ones at kindergarten. Can you make delicious ice cream yourself even if you don't have an ice cream mold?
Of course you can! If you don’t own ice molds, can’t find them, or want to make a big batch with the kids at daycare or school, you can still make ice pops.

How are ice pops stored?
Ideally, ice pops are stored in the popsicle mold in the freezer. However, if you want to reuse the mold, you'll need another storage option. I recommend airtight Tupperware containers. To prevent the individual popsicles from sticking together, I recommend separating them with small pieces of parchment paper. You can also use a freezer bag, of course, just make sure the popsicles don't freeze together and that you seal the bag airtight.
#ParentHack for Minis
When the sun is shining bright, ice melts quickly – dripping all over kids’ clothes and attracting pesky wasps. Quick fix: slip a paper muffin liner onto the stick (poke the stick through the bottom of the liner). The liner will catch the drips – no mess, no stress!
