A moist nut cake as a Halloween cake? Absolutely! With chocolatey spiders, this loaf cake becomes the highlight when baking with kids.
As you probably know, my minis and I love baking themed cakes – with colorful glazes, lots of sprinkles, and other decorative highlights. Today, we’re keeping it “classic” and decorating with delicious chocolate glaze and tasty chocolate drops, which we transform into spider bodies. A moist nut cake finished off with a delicious hazelnut-chocolate glaze: this will be a Halloween treat!
Recipe for our Moist Nut Cake
Our moist nut cake is made from a simple sponge batter and a cute chocolatey decoration. A super easy recipe for baking with kids. The decorating in particular is something the minis will love. If your minis aren’t fans of marshmallows, you can also use Smarties, candy eyes, pearls, icing, etc. for the spiders’ eyes.

Der Halloween-Kracher!
Preparation
- First, preheat the oven to 175°C (top/bottom heat).
- Mix oil, sugar, and eggs with the hand mixer.
- Combine ground hazelnuts, flour, baking powder, and salt, and stir into the oil-sugar-egg mixture.
- Finally, stir in the milk and pour the batter into the loaf pan lined with baking paper.
- Bake the hazelnut cake at 175°C (top/bottom heat) for 50 minutes. Use the skewer test to check if the sponge is fully baked.
- Let the moist hazelnut cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it and place it on a cooling rack to cool completely.
- Once fully cooled, cover it with the hazelnut glaze melted in a water bath.
- Now decorate small spiders on the hazelnut cake: the Peanut Mini Cups form the spider bodies, mini marshmallows make the spider eyes, and the legs are drawn with melted chocolate from a piping bag. And your spider cake for Halloween is ready!
