Stamped butter cookies – classic Christmas baking reinterpreted (product test: cookie stamp RBV Birkmann)

*This posting contains advertising.

In the Christmas bakery, classic butter cookies are a must. Today we’re testing the festive cookie stamp “HoHoHo” with our classic recipe.

My Minis love baking cookies: kneading the dough, cutting out funny shapes, and of course decorating the baked cookies with colorful treats afterwards! We bake cookies all year round… lemon cookies for Easter, , spooky Halloween cookies in October , and of course Christmas cookies during Advent!

Today we’re baking cookies again! But this time, there’s a twist: today we’re making stamped cookies! We’ll be pressing a festive stamp into our butter cookie dough.

I’m curious to see whether the cookie stamp will release cleanly from the raw dough and whether the imprint will still be visible after baking. 😉

Let’s get started!

Recipe for Classic Butter Cookies

This recipe is a true classic in the Christmas bakery, especially with children. It’s also perfect for cut-out cookies! Even though today we’re testing the cookie stamp with the Minis, these tips for baking cookies with kids will also help when stamping cookies. 😉

Baking cookies is always a highlight for my Minis since they can join in at every step: gathering ingredients, kneading the dough (my big Mini actually finds this really fun now!), rolling out, cutting out – and of course, the best part – decorating!

Mini tip: For cut-out cookies and stamped cookies, it’s important that the dough is well chilled and then processed quickly. If the dough gets too soft, it becomes sticky and may spread in the oven. I always recommend working with a small piece of dough while keeping the rest in the fridge until it’s needed.

Ingredients (makes approx. 50 butter cookies)

Butter cookie dough:

  • 600 g flour
  • 250 g fine sugar
  • 250 g cold butter
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 vanilla bean or 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Decoration

Baking accessories

Kitchen scale, mixing bowl, cling film, baking tray, baking paper, rolling pin (optionally with rolling guides for even thickness), knife, cookie stamp “HoHoHo”, fondant cutter set (I use this set*), small bowl, pastry brush, saucepan & bowl for a water bath, Disposable piping bag*, teaspoons, tablespoons

Mini tip: For rectangular or square stamped cookies, you can cut the rolled dough into rectangles or squares matching the size of the stamp before stamping. For round stamps, special round cookie cutters are easier to use than a knife.

However, there are also cookie cutters that make it even easier to cut the printed dough from the dough sheet. These cutters are recommended for round cookie stamps, as round cookies can't be cut evenly with a knife. Here are the cutters for cutting stamp cookies:

Preparation

For a stress-free Christmas baking day, divide the process into steps: make the dough, stamp & bake the cookies, then decorate them.

Making the dough

  • Weigh out all ingredients and knead into a smooth dough.
  • Wrap in cling film and chill for 30–60 minutes.

Stamping the cookies

  • Lightly flour the work surface and rolling pin.
  • Take a small portion of dough from the fridge, knead briefly, then roll out to about 0.5 cm thickness. (Keep the rest of the dough chilled!)

  • Cut rectangles with a knife (or use a cookie cutter) and place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  • Your Mini can now press the stamp into the dough rectangles. Lightly flour the stamp beforehand so it doesn’t stick. For a clean imprint, kids may need to press down the four corners of the stamp.

  • For an extra effect, I used a small fondant cutter to press star shapes into the stamped cookies.
  • Bake at 180°C (top/bottom heat) for 7–10 minutes until golden brown.

  • Let cool on a wire rack.

Now you have finished stamped cookies that look beautiful even without sugar pearls. If your little one doesn't want to miss out on the decorations, continue here!

Decorating the stamped cookies

  • While the cookies cool, mix powdered sugar with lemon juice to make icing (add juice drop by drop so it doesn’t get too thin).
  • Brush the cookies with the icing and sprinkle with sugar pearls.
  • Next, melt the candy melts according to instructions and fill them into a piping bag. Cut off a tiny tip.
  • Carefully trace the “HoHoHo” stamp impression with the green melts.

Now your beautifully decorated stamped butter cookies are ready!

Product Test: Cookie Stamp “HoHoHo”

The butter cookies worked wonderfully with the “HoHoHo” cookie stamp from RBV Birkmann. By keeping the dough cool and lightly flouring the stamp before pressing, it always released cleanly from the raw dough.

The stamp was also easy for my Minis to handle. After 2–3 tries, they knew how firmly to press to get an even imprint.

Even after baking, the imprint was clearly visible – though it’s important to keep the dough from getting too warm during handling.

I can really recommend this cookie stamp for Christmas baking with kids. It’s easy to use, and the results are absolutely adorable (and delicious 😉).

My Minis and I wish you lots of fun in the Christmas bakery! Maybe this year you’ll try pretty stamped cookies with this classic butter cookie recipe, too!

Have fun baking!

Yours, Lia
