Mini nougat muffins with hearts

For Carnival, my kids & I bake chocolate mini nougat muffins with hearts. A delicious combination of velvety nougat muffins and fruity ruby chocolate!

Today my kids and I are baking a large batch of nougat muffins for the long-awaited carnival buffet. Anyone who has accompanied my kids and me for a while knows that we like to bake small portions for children's parties, as I have found that the minis usually want to snack on the whole buffet, but in the end the temptation is a little greater than their hunger. To ensure that there are as few leftover cakes as possible on the plates at the carnival buffet, we bake mini muffins!

What do we bake for the cake buffet at school/kindergarten?

Although the global pandemic is not yet over, some schools/kindergartens are already allowed to bake again for children or for charity events. Personally, I am a big fan of muffins because they are already portioned. However, if you want to bake for a children's party for the minis at school/kindergarten, I clearly recommend SMALL portions:

  1. The minis can try a little bit of different treats.
  2. There are fewer leftover “eaten” cake scraps that end up in the trash.
  3. The small portions are usually easier and “accident-free” to eat.

These mini muffins or mini muffins in general are wonderful for a children's party buffet. But also our mini berliner out of the oven or the colorful cake pop sticks are excellent for a small appetite or for little leftovers on the cake plate. Our brightly colored rainbow cookies They also look very inviting on a cake buffet and, in an emergency, can even be kept in the tin for a few weeks.

Recipe for our mini nougat muffins

These mini muffins are made from a simple batter and clearly impress with their cute decoration! This recipe is also a wonderful beginner's recipe for school children who want to bake (almost) alone for the first time.

Preparation

  • Place eggs, soft margarine and soft nougat in a mixing bowl and mix until smooth.
  • Add the dry ingredients (flour, sugar & cocoa) to the batter and mix into a smooth batter.
  • Preheat the oven to 175°C top/bottom heat.
  • Place the paper cases in the hollows of the muffin tin and use two teaspoons to distribute the dough into the paper cases. We used a full teaspoon of batter per mini muffin.
  • The mini muffins are baked for about 10 minutes until they are cooked through. (Please do the cooking test with a wooden stick, as every oven bakes differently.)
  • Then let the muffins cool on the cooling rack and meanwhile melt the ruby chocolate in a water bath for decoration. (Here's how to make a water bath.)
  • Now dip the mini muffins “upside down” into the melted chocolate and decorate to your heart’s content.
