Sweet shake cakes in a waffle cup for the summer party

*this posting contains advertising

Cute little shake cakes in waffle cups are a definite hit at any summer party for little ones. This quick recipe also makes a delicious toast at any children's birthday party 😉

Today my little ones and I are baking sweet "shakes" together. My little ones always get excited when I prepare a delicious summer drink for them: usually, ice cubes and a mint leaf picked from the balcony are a must. The "summer drink" we're baking together today is a slight variation on our liquid summer drink, but at least as delicious and guaranteed 10 times as pretty 😉

Here's to a lovely summer!

Recipe for our sweet shake cakes in a waffle cup

I think these little waffle cups are great as a party snack for little ones! They're handy and can be eaten whole without getting little fingers too dirty (not that this is a big deal when it comes to eating a treat, but they're ideal for a small party or picnic snack, right?)

Another little tip: You don't need that much batter to fill the shake cakes in waffle cups. They're also perfect for using up leftover batter. You can also fill the waffle cups with leftovers from a sponge cake – all you have to do is mix them with some cream cheese, jam, or melted chocolate (something like the recipe for our bee cakesicles) and you've got no-bake shake cakes in a waffle cup. 😉

Ingredients for 16 shake cakes in a waffle cup

Sponge dough

  • 75 g margarine
  • 30 g sugar
  • 1/2 packet of vanilla sugar (7g)
  • 1 small egg
  • 100 g (spelled) flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 70 g Greek yogurt (10% fat)
  • 16 waffle cups* (You can get the waffle cups in any larger supermarket)

Decoration

Baking accessories

Kitchen scales, mixing bowl, hand mixer, dough scraper, teaspoon, baking tray, cooling rack, microwave or pot and bowl for melting the cake melts, scissors for shortening the paper straws

Preparation

You don't need much batter for this cake in waffle cups. You can use your favorite sponge cake recipe or leftover batter from your previous baking. In any case, we'll start with the batter and filling the waffle cups before decorating them with a summery touch.

Filling for the waffle cups

  • First, preheat the oven to 180°C top/bottom heat.
  • Put the margarine in a mixing bowl and stir it until fluffy.
  • Add sugar, vanilla sugar and egg and mix until the sugar has dissolved.
  • Add yogurt and mix well
  • Mix the flour and baking powder together and add to the remaining ingredients and mix into a smooth dough.
  • Now fill the waffle cups 2/3 full with the batter (this works best with a teaspoon)
  • To prevent the small waffle cups from falling over during baking, place them on a baking tray and bake in the oven for about 10-12 minutes. (To determine if they are baked through, do the toothpick test.)
  • Then place them on a cooling rack to cool down.

Now we turn to the creative part – decorating the little shakes!

  • The first step is to prepare the straws. To do this, cut each straw into 4 equal pieces—4 "mini straws"—and set them aside. (little tip(You can also use filled wafer rolls as straws, making your shake cakes completely edible! You can find them in the cookie section of most supermarkets.)
  • Now melt the melts and place the waffle cups upside down with the opening first into the liquid melts (see picture), so that the entire opening of the waffle cup is covered with the melts.
  • Then you put a small “mini straw” in each waffle cup and decorate the sweet “summer drinks” with the “laughing gummy fruits” and small and large chocolate balls.
