Golden frog prince cake pops

A fairytale birthday without kings? Unthinkable! For my little one's 7th birthday there were lots of little green kings - frog kings! The cute frog king cake pops were highly coveted by the little guests...

For my mini's fairy tale party, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to offer a few small treats instead of a large birthday cake. Experience over the last few years has shown me that the kids usually leave half of a large piece of cake on their plate (what a shame). But if you offer small treats like cake pops, mini muffins or mini donuts, there will hardly be any leftovers on the plates. My choice fell on delicious cake pops, among other things - of course in keeping with the fairy tale theme with the "Frog Prince"!

Here we go!

Mini-Tip: I rolled our frog prince cake pops in the classic way, but they can also be made in a silicone cake pop maker .

Recipe for our cute frog prince cake pops

To make the cake pops, we first bake a moist chocolate-nut sponge cake, which we then process into the little cakes on a stick.

Of course, you can also use another sponge cake – your favorite sponge cake (e.g. lemon cake) or buy a ready-made sponge cake and make cake pops. You will need about 400-500g of cake, depending on the size of the cake pops.

Preparation

First, the sponge cake is baked:

  • First of all, preheat the oven to 175°C top/bottom heat.
  • Now you and your kids put all the ingredients for the chocolate nut cake into the mixing bowl and mix them into a smooth dough.
  • Fill this into a greased loaf tin and then bake it for approx. 45-50 minutes at 175°C top/bottom heat.
  • Use the “stick test” to check whether the cake is baked through. Then turn it out onto the cooling rack to cool down.

The cake pops are rolled:

  • You and your kids now crumble the cooled cake into a bowl and add the cream cheese (alternatively, you can also use jam or melted chocolate).
  • Cake crumbs and cream cheese are now kneaded into a “sticky” dough that does not fall apart when you form a ball.
  • That's exactly what you do now: form about 12 small dough balls from the dough, the cake pops for the frog prince cake pops.

The cake pops are decorated to make frog prince cake pops:

  • To do this, put the glaze in a cup or a narrow, tall container and melt it in a water bath.
  • First, you fix the sticks in the cake pops. To do this, dip about 1-2 cm of the stick tip into the liquid icing and then stick the icing-covered end of the stick halfway into the middle of a cake pop. Repeat this for all cake pops. As soon as the icing has dried, the stick is fixed in the cake pop.
  • Next, dip the entire cake pop into the liquid icing, let it drip off a little (so that the icing doesn't form "noses") and place it in a small glass to dry. Before it has completely dried, attach the small wine gummy frog to the cake pop - voilà and you have frog prince cake pops.
  • Since the ball in question from the fairy tale is golden, the cake pops are finally sprayed with golden glitter spray. Absolutely magical!
