This super easy & quick recipe for our fabulous chocolate cake is worth the sin not only at Halloween! But when could our “Death by Chocolate” cake be more fitting than as a spookily delicious Halloween graveyard on the Halloween dessert table?
As you may have noticed, we often kick off the Halloween season with a chocolate cake. Last year with the “Spookily Chocolatey Candy Cake” and the year before, our pumpkin chocolate cake fluttered in as a bat . This year, too, we’ve started our celebrated Halloween month with a sinfully delicious & wonderfully moist chocolate cake! We simply can’t do without chocolate! But the best thing about this year’s recipe I haven’t even told you yet: not only is it quick, it’s also incredibly easy to make!
For Halloween, we decorated our chocolate cake with little inscribed cookies to turn it into a graveyard. But if you don’t want to bake it for Halloween with your minis, it also tastes wonderful simply dusted with powdered sugar.

Der Halloween-Kracher!
Preparation
- Melt the butter and 150 g dark chocolate in a water bath.
- Preheat the oven to 160°C (top/bottom heat).
- Put the eggs and sugar in a mixing bowl and beat with a hand mixer for 2–3 minutes until light in color – at least until the mixture turns pale.
- Mix flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder together, sift into the egg-sugar mixture, and slowly fold in.
- Add the melted chocolate-butter mixture to the batter and mix briefly.
- Pour the batter into the springform pan lined with baking paper and bake for about 30 minutes on the middle rack.
- After 30 minutes, check for doneness with a skewer. If done, let the cake cool in the pan on a cooling rack for 10 minutes.
- Run a knife around the inside edge of the springform pan to loosen the cake, then carefully open and remove the ring. Place the cooling rack on top of the cake, flip it over, and remove the base and baking paper. Let the cake cool completely.
- For the decoration, melt the remaining dark chocolate in a water bath and brush it over the cake. Use the white icing pen to write “RIP” on the small rectangular cookies and stick them upright into the cake as little “gravestones.” Crush the 1–2 chocolate cookies into crumbs and sprinkle them in front of the gravestones as “dirt.”
And your chocolate graveyard for Halloween is ready!
