No Christmas without American cookies – our recipe for my first Christmas blog parade
One of my goals for the last quarter of 2024 (see my blog post “My To-Want List for my 4th quarter 2024”) is to organize our own blog parade for the first time! No sooner said than done! My 1st Blog parade “Your favorite Christmas recipe” is currantly running and if you run your own blog, you are welcome to take part. Of course, my kids and I also contribute a favorite recipe to the blog parade: our Chunky Caramel Cookies!
Since I experienced the pre-Christmas season and a Christmas in America in 2000, American cookies have become an integral part of my Christmas season. These wonderfully “chewy” treats are a must for me during Christmas season! Anyone who has been with us here for a while knows that we love cookies at any time of the year (blog post „Cookies all year long – 12 recipes for the whole year“)! However, they are an absolute must during the Christmas season! Every bite is a reminder of a classic American Christmas with my lovely host family, especially my host mother, who is a heartfelt human being and was a wonderful host mother! No more Christmas without cookies!
Our recipe for chunky caramel cookies with sea salt
Cookies are always great for baking with kids - they're super easy to make and super delicious! At the same time, you need few accessories. The ideal recipe for baking with kids!
Ingredients
(for approx. 9-12 caramel cookies)
- 220 g (spelled) flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 110 g butter
- 50 g sugar
- 150 g brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 60 g diced caramel fudge* (If you can't find caramel fudge in the baking department, you can also cut soft caramel candies into small cubes)
- 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt

Baking accessories
Mixing bowl, small bowl, kitchen scales, hand mixer, tablespoon, teaspoon, baking tray lined with baking paper
Preparation
- Heat oven to 175°C.
- Mix flour, salt and baking powder in the small bowl.
- Beat the butter, sugar and brown sugar with a hand mixer until the butter becomes light in color.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and mix well.
- Add the flour mixture to the dough in portions and stir in.
- Finally, fold the caramel fudge into the batter. Make sure the fudge pieces are distributed throughout the dough.
- Roll 1 tablespoon of cookie dough into a ball and place the dough balls on the baking tray lined with baking paper, approx. 5 cm apart.
- Now sprinkle half of the caramel cookies with coarse sea salt. You can bake the other half for the minis without salt (fun fact: one of my minis especially loves the sea salt on the cookies!).
- The caramel cookies are now baked 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
- Then let the cookies cool on the tray and enjoy together!
