For the 3rd Halloween Blog Parade, my little ones and I are baking spooky Amerikaner! These little treats are super easy and absolutely adorable!
After my minis and I contributed bats to the Halloween blog parades of the past two years (2020: Chocolatey Bat Pumpkin Cake; 2021: Fluffy bat cakesicles), we’re breaking our tradition in the third year and—just this once—not baking a bat! 😉 However, we’re not breaking one tradition: once again this year, our contribution is fluttering its way into the blog parade!
Our contribution to this year’s Halloween Blog Parade with many creative food bloggers is arriving at the Halloween buffet as a little ghost! To be precise… as many little ghost Amerikaner!
Once again this year, you and your little ones can look forward to a delicious, digital Halloween cake buffet that my minis and I have put together for you along with many creative food bloggers.
As the name of our family baking blog already suggests, our focus is on creative baking with children. This of course means plenty of fun, simple recipes, delicious results, and as much edible decoration as possible! There’s no room for perfection here—but lots of room for great flavor! 🙂 Today we’re baking the classic, much-loved Amerikaner in a special Halloween edition for you.

Trick or Treat?
Preparation
- Beat the softened butter with a hand mixer until creamy. Add the sugar and beat until the mixture is pale and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition.
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the flour mixture and milk to the batter and mix until smooth.
- On baking paper, draw about 8 ghosts with a thick felt-tip pen (see step-by-step photos) and place the paper ink-side down on the baking sheet.
- Fill the batter into a piping bag (use either a round tip about 1 cm in diameter or a disposable piping bag).
Mini tip: To make it easier for the kids to handle, close the piping bag with a clip so the batter can’t escape from the top.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (top and bottom heat).
- Hold the piping bag about 2 cm above the baking sheet and pipe the ghost shapes with even pressure.Note: Leave enough space between the Amerikaner as they will spread while baking.
- Lightly moisten your fingers with water and smooth out any ridges in the batter.
- Bake the spooky Amerikaner at 180°C (top and bottom heat) for about 10–12 minutes. They should be only very lightly browned and should not spring back too much when pressed lightly with a finger. Remove them from the baking paper immediately after baking and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
- For the glaze mix powdered sugar and a little lemon juice into a thick icing. Add the lemon juice drop by drop so it doesn’t become too thin.
- Brush the ghost Amerikaner with the icing, then draw ghost faces with melted dark chocolate or black icing.
